So, you finally get the call you have been waiting for: A call for the
first interview of your dream job. You have been waiting in anticipation
hoping that all the work you did on your cover letter and resume would come
through. It has, but now how to do you prepare? What do you do to stand out
above your competition? I have the answers for you.
Tip 1 - Always research the company and have a few questions about that
company for your interview. Your recruiter is going to ask you if you have any
questions: Never say NO! Always say YES! And ask questions about the
organization and the role. Know about the company and think outside the box
when it comes to your questions. You need to show that you are very interested
in working for their organization.
Tip 2 - Educate yourself on behavioral interviews and standard interviews.
You don't know which type is coming at you so be prepared for both. Behavioral
interviews are going to ask you how you behaved in the past in a certain
situation. Have several examples from your past employment ready to use, so
you can sound confident and eager to be a part of their team.
Tip 3 - Always end the interview with a firm and strong handshake,
expressing your interest in the role and that you are looking forward to
hearing from them. Let them know, that you ARE the best candidate to fill this
role and will not hesitate to prove it!
Tip 4 - Send a Thank you Letter. When you get home from the interview make
a Thank You Card for the recruiter. Mention that it was a pleasure to meet
him/her, that you look forward to working for their organization and again
provide your contact information. This will again, set you apart and put you
above the rest as you took that extra time and effort to show that recruiter
how serious you are about working for their company.
Follow these 4 job interview tips and you will be amazed at the success you
have. Again, always research the organization and role and have questions
about each ready to be asked, educate yourself on different interview
techniques and have examples and answers already in mind, be confident with a
firm handshake and express your interest at the end of the interview and send
a thank you card. These 4 actions will see you apart and put you ahead of your
competition.
